Baptistland: A Memoir of Abuse, Betrayal, and Transformation

This site is where you can find links to a lot of my published essays and articles on Baptist clergy sex abuse, church cover-ups, and denominational do-nothingness in Baptistland. If you’re here, that’s probably what you’re interested in, and I hope you may find something helpful. Check out my Substack newsletter, In Solidarity, as well.

Mostly, I write about abuse and cover-ups in the largest non-Catholic faith group in the U.S., the Southern Baptist Convention. But I’ve also written about abuse in other evangelical groups, and about other ways in which religion can get twisted into a force for oppression and hate. My prior book, a combination memoir and exposé, is This Little Light: Beyond a Baptist Preacher Predator and His Gang.

I’m featured in this new documentary short film called For Our Daughters, about abuse, betrayal, and resistance in the evangelical church, and about the parallels between evangelicalism’s clergy sex abuse problem and its support for Christian nationalism. I hope you’ll watch it.

My thanks to every reader who has shared some part of my journey.
